Celebration of 60th anniversary of Brazilian Society for Microbiology

n May 30th 1955 during the First Symposium on the Develpment of Microbiology in Brazil organized by Rio de Janeiro ranch of Society of Americas Bacteriologists (current Amercan Society for Microbiology) coordinated by Prof. Minton hiago de Mello, held in Rio de Janeiro, was formally suggested he creation of the Brazilian Society for Microbiology (SBM) nd a scientific journal under denomination of the Revista a Sociedade Brasileira de Microbiologia (Journal of Brazilan Society for Microbiology). As a result of this symposium, n 28th September 1956 a group of notorious microbiologists rom Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (former University f Brazil) founded the Brazilian Society for Microbiology and n 1959 the first volume of Revista Brasileira de Microbioloia (current Brazilian Journal of Microbiology) was published. ince then, SBM has actively promoted the Microbiology in razil and Latin America, by holding of annual events, offerng courses, publishing magazine, among other activities. fter restatements to adapt to different moments in our hisory the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology make significant ontributions to applied microbiology. Currently, the scope overs different areas as biotechnology and industrial microiology, environmental microbiology, food microbiology and edical microbiology. As part of celebration of 60th anniverary of Brazilian Society for Microbiology we edit this special ssue that comprises eight article reviews of significant interst selected from important universal subjects. We hope you njoy and that the endeavors of this publication match the oals that are spreading the microbiology.
